Creativity Works: Podcasting

Power up your podcast skills and get a job in one of the fastest growing media industries out there

There are over 1 million published podcasts and half of all young people in the UK listen to a podcast every month. It’s a media powerhouse and it’s only set to get bigger. So, we want to help young people tap into this opportunity and discover the jobs available.

Over six weeks you’ll learn everything from production to presenting, editing to growing a following. You'll recieve training from broadcasting & podcasting powerhouses, Somethin’ Else (Winner of Best Network at the British Podcast Awards 2020), award-winning international arts and culture podcast STANCE hosted by journalist and BBC broadcaster Chrystal Genesis and Gilles’s Peterson’s Worldwide FM, the award-winning online radio station broadcasting out of east London with programming from Palestine to New Orleans and everything in between.

The course is delivered fully online, 5 days a week, Mon-Fri. This includes daily industry talks, development workshops, careers advice and guidance, individual support, peer networking and self-study.

The core elements of this course will cover:

  • 101 to podcasting
  • Editorial: Finding Your Story
  • Recording & Editing (Sound & Quality)
  • Producing: Bringing it all together
  • Presenting: How to be a host
  • Storytelling: How do you tell stories?
  • The Independents: Podcasting without restrictions
  • The Broadcasters, Big Independents, The Platforms: Podcasting in the traditional space
  • Our World: A Global Perspective on Podcasting
  • Brief to Broadcast: How to Make Ideas into Top Podcasts
  • Development: Perfecting an Idea and Standing Out
  • Money & IP: Making It Pay + Owning Your Ideas
  • Down to You: Press, Promoting, Artwork and ready for launch

There will be daily sound challenge exercises to get your editing up to speed

All ending in a live listening party and celebration.

As well as access to the course content, our aim is to place every person who goes through this programme into paid work or further training. You’ll also get access to:

We don’t mind about qualifications or past paid experience; our only requirements are:

  • You must be 18-24 years-old
  • You must be from a London borough
  • You must not be in full-time employment, education or training
  • You must commit to the programme and be free weekdays during the programme (29 October to 11 December)
  • You must be free for a selection day on either 14, 15 or 16 October

Other than that, we want to see your passion and interest in the industry as well as a creative can-do attitude and desire to learn. Find out more about our ideal applicant here.

We encourage applications from people who are currently under-represented in the digital and creative sector. This includes women, people who are Black, Asian or Minority Ethnic, D/deaf, Disabled and Neurodivergent people, people from the LGBTQ+ community, as well people from lower socio-economic backgrounds.

We also welcome applicants from a range of educational backgrounds and therefore do not require any formal qualification to apply.

Important info

If your application is successful, you’ll need to be available for an online group selection day on either 14, 15, 16 October where you'll take part in a collaborative group task and meet the Create Jobs team.

Please note that we are unable to offer alternative group selection dates and if you are unable to attend the selection day, we will not be able to process your application further.

You must be free to take part in the programme full time between 29 October to 11 December.
