HudsonBec Group - It’s Nice That (Junior Creative)

Junior Creative

It’s Nice That believes passionately that creative inspiration is for everyone, and by championing the most exciting and engaging work online, in print and through our events programmes, we want to open up this world to the widest possible audience.

The Junior Creative will work within the It’s Nice That creative team, helping it to deliver our commercial and editorial projects. This is an exciting opportunity to gain experience in digital media at a publishing company embedded in the creative industry, and to develop creative skills, such as design, idea generation and art direction.

We’re looking for someone who is proactive (you’ll always be encouraged to come to the team with your ideas); willing to learn; and organised and comfortable managing their own time.

The role is predominately remote-based working, with the option of using our studio based in Haggerston, East London, if you require a space to work from. You may be occasionally required to visit the studio for team meetings or workshops during your 6-month placement, which will be organised well in advance. From January we may require applicant to work within the office two days a week but can be flexible depending on location.

It’s Nice That believes passionately that creative inspiration is for everyone, and by championing the most exciting and engaging work online, in print and through our events programmes, we want to open up this world to the widest possible audience.

It’s Nice That is part of the The Hudson Bec Group, an independently owned group of companies with the shared mission to enable creativity to thrive. The group also includes Anyways Creative, an agency that guides brands and organisations through the broad worlds of culture and communication; Creative Lives in Progress, a platform offering advice, insight and inspiration for the next generation of creatives; and If You Could, a creative jobs board providing a quick and easy way to browse hundreds of opportunities across the industry.

The key tasks associated with this role include:

  • Researching new and exciting creatives for us to collaborate with on projects
  • Discussing creative work with the rest of the team; working with the rest of the creative team to commission collaborators (e.g. an illustrator) to work on editorial projects and commercial briefs
  • Helping to art direct and design final assets ready for publishing across It’s Nice That’s channels.

Other tasks include:

  • Establishing and maintaining relationships with both emerging and established names within the creative industry
  • Helping with other forms of research required across the creative team and potentially also helping to come up with ideas for new projects.

You must be aged 16-24 years old, and unemployed and claiming Universal Credit.

It’s Nice That is looking for a proactive, creatively minded individual who’s excited to learn about publishing and digital media, and eager to develop a broad creative skillset. The ideal candidate will be someone who has a keen interest in creative work and the creative industry; someone who has a passion for design and art direction; and who understands the It’s Nice That brand, and has a wide understanding of the key creative disciplines It's Nice That covers most often (including graphic design, illustration, photography).

When it comes to temperament, we’re looking for someone who relishes getting stuck into a challenge; who is willing to learn; who is proactive, self-motivated and able to manage their own time; and who works well in a small team.

In terms of experience and skills, a basic understanding of Adobe softwares such as Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop will be very useful, though not absolutely necessary. Any prior experience of design, art direction and commissioning will be really valuable as well.
