Runner

Trim Editing is looking for a part-time Office Runner on a 6-month placement, who is passionate to work towards a career in film editing in the long-term.

This is a part-time position on a 6 month fixed-term contract, which could develop into a full-time permanent position for the right person.

You would be joining our team of 2 full-time Runners. Our Running Team is the foundation of how Trim operates - our Runners literally keep the office running smoothly!

Being a runner at Trim provides our first level training in how to work in a team, how to communicate with clients, and how to do small things beautifully, which is the foundation of everything we do as award winning film editors.

Trim is an award winning 30+ person film editing studio based in Whitechapel, East London.

We work primarily in high-end television commercials, music videos, fashion and drama, with a strong focus on our creative environment, striving to work with the best people on the best projects that genuinely affect individuals and society.

Trim Editing

Running duties include:

  • Meeting and greeting clients
  • Answering the phone
  • Client hospitality - making and serving well-presented drinks and snacks, organising food orders and making sure that they are delivered on time; preparing and clearing editing suites; kitchen maintenance (coffee on tap, drinks and snacks stocked)
  • Managing petty cash
  • Logging expenses and reconciling receipts
  • Office upkeep - from caring for plants to researching purchases and maintenance; booking & receiving couriers, logging in and moving drives; supporting the team with social media output; covid health & safety procedures support.

You will gain a grounding in understanding post production workflows, and a view on both the business operations and the creative work, sharpening your creative eye and critical thinking.

Please note this is a junior role in our Running Department with a view towards training towards becoming an Assistant Editor or Assistant Post-Producer and not an editing position.

Hours: 27hrs per week - 3 x 9hr days 

Shift: Wednesday to Friday - 9am to 7pm 

Salary: £10.85 per hour (= £1,269.45 pcm gross)

Overtime: Occasionally required. Paid at time and a half after 7pm and on Saturdays, double time on Sundays

You must be aged 16-24 years old, and unemployed and claiming Universal Credit.

We do not require any formal qualifications or previous experience to apply to be a Runner at Trim.

The qualities we look for in Running applications to work at Trim are: passion for the work (filmmaking, music and the arts); bright initiative; self-responsibility; humility and grit.

We are looking for someone with excellent organisational and communication skills (speaking clearly and concisely, showing you are listening attentively), who is proactive (takes initiative and makes things happen) and tells us when they don’t know something. Someone who has the ability to be calm under pressure and having a keen eye for detail is key - doing small things beautifully and always double checking your work.

We value great oral and written communication, and will train you in these skills.  We require excellent organisational skills, and we will help you learn how to prioritise jobs. We want you to be pro-active and we’ll ensure that you know when to ask for help.

Some knowledge of offline editing or film post production would be an advantage, along with proficiency in Office software, or experience in high-end hospitality.

This programme is being delivered as part of the government’s Kickstart Scheme.

To be eligible to apply you must be aged 18 – 24 and claiming universal credit.
